DESCRIPTION:Join us for the talk “Presidents and Power: Change and the U
 K Supreme Court” from Professor Alan Paterson\, Emeritus Professor of La
 w at Strathclyde University on Friday 14th October at 5.15pm in the Magdal
 en College Auditorium. The talk will be introduced by Magdalen President D
 inah Rose QC and will be followed by a Q&A\, to be chaired by the Right Ho
 nourable Lord Briggs of Westbourne\, JSC (1973).\n\nProfessor Paterson is 
 the author of the prize-winning Final Judgment: The Last Law Lords and the
  Supreme Court (2013)\, which gave unparalleled insight into the decision-
 making processes of the Supreme Court\, with the benefit of the remarkably
  frank interviews he conducted with Justices of the Court. \n\nWhen the Ho
 use of Lords morphed into the Supreme Court\, many jurists said little wou
 ld change\, whilst others thought the reverse. Who was right? Did the Just
 ices embrace “judicial activism” in the Brexit and other constitutiona
 l cases in a way that the Law Lords had not\, and have they now repented o
 f it? What has been the role of the Presidents in all this – what has be
 en their relationship with Government\, what powers do they have to “man
 age their Court”\, and how has decision-making changed with the Court’
