DESCRIPTION:Summary:\nThe intersection of infectious diseases and cognitiv
e deficits is an growing area of research with significant clinical implic
ations. Numerous infections\, including COVID-19\, have been associated wi
th an elevated risk of cognitive deficits and dementia\, while certain vac
cines—most notably the recombinant shingles vaccine—have been linked t
o reduced risks. This talk will explore these relationships through findin
gs from retrospective cohort studies\, natural experiments leveraging larg
e-scale electronic health records\, and prospective cohort studies. The di
scussion will focus on the associations between SARS-CoV-2 infections and
cognitive impairment\, as well as the protective cognitive effects observe
d with vaccines against shingles and RSV. Mechanistic insights will be hig
hlighted.\n\nBrief bio:\nMax Taquet is a Clinical Lecturer in psychiatry a
t the university of Oxford. His research focusses on leveraging large-scal
e\, multimodal datasets to better understand neuropsychiatric disorders an
d their intricate connections with physical health conditions. Before stud
ying medicine in Oxford\, he completed his PhD in Engineering and was a Re
search Fellow at Harvard Medical School where he developed novel imaging t
echniques to map the brain microstructure. \n\nSpeakers:\nDr Maxime Taquet
