Before his untimely death at the age of 34, Gavin Bone produced a headstrong, modernist corpus of Old English translations while studying and teaching at Oxford which has been little studied. This talk will centre on Bone’s illustrations and reception of Beowulf as published posthumously in his 1945 translation.
The Merton MCR’s colloquia series provides a taste of the diverse range of research being conducted by graduate community. This informal talk is tailored for a non-specialist audience, but all are welcome.
The talk will take place in the Merton College MCR and the Porter’s will be able to direct you from the Lodge on Merton Street.
